Helping people move forward through life’s hardest transitions

Gregory Adams, LPC, LSATP Founder & Managing Partner
Greg Adams is the Founder and Managing Partner of Family Wellness Group and a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner in Virginia. He brings more than 20 years of experience in behavioral health, including 12 years focused on divorce, couples, and families.
Greg works with adults, couples, and blended families facing complex situations: a marriage at a crossroads, a separation, a high-conflict co-parenting relationship, a strained parent-child relationship, or the work of bringing two families together. He is a Certified Discernment Counselor, Certified Parent Coordinator, and Collaborative Divorce Coach.
Attorneys and courts frequently refer families to Greg for discernment counseling, parent coordination, and reunification work, and he has provided expert testimony on parent coordination and other divorce and co-parenting matters.
Greg’s approach
Greg believes therapy should be a place where people feel genuinely understood, respected, and challenged to grow. Lasting change, in his view, doesn’t come from simply talking about problems. It comes from gaining new perspectives, building practical skills, and finding the courage to approach life’s challenges differently.
Because every person, couple, and family has a unique story, Greg tailors his work to each client rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model. He draws from evidence-based approaches including psychodynamic and object relations theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM). His style is flexible, collaborative, and direct when needed.
Therapy with Greg isn’t about assigning blame or reliving the past indefinitely. It’s about understanding what brought you here, identifying what will move you forward, and leaving with tools that keep working long after your sessions end.
“You don’t need to have everything figured out before contacting me. My role is to help bring clarity to complex situations, identify obstacles that may be keeping you stuck, and work collaboratively toward practical, lasting solutions.” (Greg)
What to expect
Greg values authenticity, direct communication, and accountability. In therapy, that means a supportive space where you feel heard and respected while also being challenged to grow. In parent coordination, it means staying neutral, keeping the focus on the children’s best interests, reducing conflict, and helping parents make decisions that support stability and healthy co-parenting.
Whichever service you need, you can expect professionalism, honesty, and an approach grounded in evidence and experience.
